Great Karri Ride 2008

The 2008 Flight Centre Great Karri Ride is Western Australia’s biggest Mountain bike event, held the first weekend of March each year. It is based around the town of Northcliffe, 35km from Pemberton, in W.A.’s majestic Southern forests. Last year 400 riders took part in the event with over 100 kids under 14 taking part in the Karri Kids event (making it Australia’s largest kids mountain Bike event!) and 300 riders took part in the Great Karri Ride. The event has a strong non competitive – social focus and is one of the core reasons why participants are returning each year bringing more friends, family and partners along.

In 2008 The Flight Centre Great Karri Ride takes on an entirely new course, completing a 112 or 120km loop from Northcliffe to The Shannon National Park Dam and Return on the Sunday, as part of a relay team or as a solo rider, alternating between 5 timed and cruise stages. The trail travels through some of the most stunning Virgin Karri Forests in the World, weaving its way through the Boorara Conservation Reserve and the majestic Shannon National Park, riding beside babbling brooks and visiting pristine fresh water dams between stages.

An optional short track event on Saturday afternoon, following the Karri Kids event in the town of Northcliffe, forms the first stage of the Great Karri Ride for those interested in category placings.

While a wood carved Karri Cup is presented to the open solo winners and unique framed certificates presented to category placegettters, the major prizes such as a return trip and free entry into Wildside in Tasmania worth over $1500, other prizes worth up to $10,000 are decided via a raffle system. Riders receive raffle tickets for entering the event and for every $10 they raise for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
